Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to her Korean mother and French-Russian father, who was working there as a consul with the French government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Her parents chose the name "Pom" due to the fact that it's identical in pronunciation to Korean words for "spring" as well as "tiger".
