Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born May 3, 1986.
She attended the Cours Florent drama school, Paris. She has been in films like
Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011 and Hacker's Game 2015. She portrays the role
of Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
(2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (1999). Pom
Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to her Korean mother and
French-Russian father, who was working there as a consul with the French
government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Her parents chose the name
"Pom" due to the fact that it's identical in pronunciation to Korean
words for "spring" as well as "tiger". The actress spent a
year in Canada before her family moved frequently because of her father's work.
Prior to making the move to France the family lived in Japan as well as on the
Ivory Coast. Klementieff's father died of cancer when she was just 5 and her
mother was suffering from schizophrenia and was unable to take care of
children, so Klementieff was cared for by her paternal uncle and aunt. Her
uncle, who she described as "like [her] second father" was killed
when she turned 18 and her brother who was older committed suicide seven years
later, this time on her 25th birthday. Klementieff briefly attended law school
following the loss of her uncle's to appease her aunt but did not find the
career choice attractive. Also, she worked as a waitress in France as well as a
salesperson. At the Cours Florent drama academy in Paris she started her acting
career at the age of 19. It was only three months into studying when she was
awarded an audition for a stage show that gave the opportunity to take two
years of free classes with the top teachers in the school. Klementieff's first
professional acting job was in the French independent film Apres lui (2007), as
the stepdaughter of the main character played by Catherine Deneuve. The filming
process took three days. In one scene, she was to be pushed down a set of
stairs but fell down the steps herself, as did director Gael Morel filmed that
scene in the final film. Loup (2009), which is a French film about the Siberian
reindeer herders was her first significant role. Klementieff spent filming
hours in an isolated camp away from the closest village. The temperature
plummeted to below zero when filming.
