Ava DuVernay was born on August 24 1972 on the 24th of August 1972 in Long Beach California. As a child DuVernay's Aunt Denise was a great influence on her enthusiasm for art and creativity. DuVernay worked as an evening nurse in order to give her aunt the time she needed during her day time to enjoy the pleasures of art, literature, and theater. DuVernay's dad recalled the protests for civil rights that took place on the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the nearby town of Selma, Alabama. DuVernay visited Selma during the summer months and was in awe of the idea to film about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in 1990. In the year 1990, she was a graduate of the Saint Joseph High School located in Lakewood California. As studying, DuVernay became interested in producing for broadcast journalism. She was an CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was appointed to watch and search the home for a specific juror. Due to her tasks, she became dissatisfied with journalistic work and entered the public relations industry. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior assistant to publicity for a film studio that was small, right after graduating from the college. In this role, she launched her own public relations company called The DuVernay Agency in 1999. The company launched a number of promotions and lifestyle channels which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
