Penelope Cruz Sanchez

Penelope Cruz Sanchez was born in Madrid to Eduardo Cruz, a retailer, and Encarna Sanchez who was a hairdresser. As a young child she was an obsessed performer who would recreate commercials on television for the enjoyment of her family. But, she decided to devote her energies to dance. She continued her dance training with a variety of highly-regarded dancers following her 9 years studying classical ballet in Spain's National Conservatory. Her true calling was discovered at the age 15 after she defeated over 300 girls at an audition for an agency that represented talent. Cruz made her film debut in 1993's The Greek Labyrinth (The Greek Labyrinth). After that, she briefly made an appearance in Framed (1992) which was a Timothy Dalton thriller. Her luck changed dramatically in 1998 when her movie-industry comedy La Nina De Tus Ojos (1998) received her a award for the Best Actress Goya. Cruz went on to make several more journeys into English-language films, but All About My Mother (1999) was her first big international success. She played a chaste but well-meaning nun. As the film was showered with awards and accolades, Cruz became in demand on both sides of the Atlantic. Woman on Top (2000) was her next major project. It was an American comedy about a cook with exceptional culinary abilities and the dreadful motion sickness. While living in the US,
