Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She retired as an American artistic gymnast. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" as well as the"Fierce Five," and the 2016 "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She was awarded an Olympic gold medal for team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also was awarded gold. Raisman took home silver medals for the individual all-around, and floor exercise. Raisman also won silver medals for the individual all-around and for floor exercise. She was also the two-time national champion of floor exercise (2012,2015) and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam, and five times medalist at national championships in all-around (silver in 2016, silver in 2012, 2011 in 2012, 2011, and the year 2015). She was inducted into The International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was born May 25 1994 in Needham, Massachusetts to Lynn Faber (nee Faber), who was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings: Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in being able not only represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community across the world. Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months. She attributes her early enthusiasm for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics and whose performance she watched on VHS.She participated in Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, after which she moved to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School, 2012 after completing her senior year via online classes and training for the Olympics.
